The History of the GAA
The Glaceau Arts Academy was founded in 1970 by a famous Broadway star, Brunella (meaning "brow-haired" in French) Glaceau. She grew up in Paris where she was admitted into a well-known ballet school at a young age. Later on, she came to take the stage name, Tayah Maelone. At the age of 19, Tayah moved to New York City in pursuit to follow her dream of Broadway Stardom. As the story goes on, an unbelievable opportunity to sing for a Broadway scout caught up with Tayah and she was handed the role of the main character in the play Tuesday.
Becoming ill with cancer in 1967, Tayah made a decision to share with the world her many theatrical talents in the form of a school for girls. The building began in 1970, but stopped briefly after the death of Tayah that November. Her close friend who had been in Tuesday with her took over the building and the school was finally finished in 1971. To this day, more than 500 girls attend GAA from all around the world. The school is located on Jasper Boulevard, which is in honor of Tayah's beloved Chihuahua, Jasper. Tayah's legacy lives on.
